Museums in Dresden

Senckenberg Naturmuseum Dresden

The Senckenberg Natural History Collections Dresden present changing exhibitions on the subjects of zoology, mineralogy, and geology in the Japanese Palace. The museum, which has its origins in the art chamber founded by Elector Augustus in 1560, has one of the oldest natural history collections in the world. The current special exhibition iNUVERSUMM – Space and Time for Insects invites visitors to discover the fascinating world of insects – from their anatomy to their development from egg to adult. It shows why their diversity is threatened and what we ourselves can do to protect them. Art also plays an important role: works by Sabine Emmerich open up aesthetic approaches and broaden our view of the world of insects. Science comes to life in the Senckenberg NatureLAB, where visitors can observe, explore, and playfully understand from up close.
