Carl Maria von Weber Museum

A visit to Dresden-Hosterwitz offers the chance of a good long walk with a musical theme. Not far from the Pillnitzer Schloss (Pillnitz Palace) is the Carl Maria von Weber Museum. The composer and his wife discovered this typical vintner’s house while out walking in the spring of 1818. Weber and his family stayed here in the warmer parts of the year in1818 and 1819 and again in 1822–1824, and many fellow-musicians and friends came to visit him here. It was in this house that he wrote his opera Euryanthe, as well as Invitation to the Dance. In the former living room and study, displays of music manuscripts, pictures and texts provide an insight into Carl Maria von Weber’s creative activity in Dresden. Special exhibitions provide an insight into specific topics in Dresden's music history.
