Dresden – a top shopping destination

Shopping in Dresden is characterized by just as much exciting variety as the city itself. The city’s broad, for the most part pedestrianized high street begins right opposite the main station and continues along Prager Straße and over the Altmarkt and the Altmarkt-Galerie to Wilsdruffer Straße.
The historic quarter that nestles around the Frauenkirche is also just a short stroll away and boasts a whole host of shops and boutiques offering a wonderful selection of outstanding products.
The Baroque Quarter on the opposite side of the river is renowned for its many luxury outlets and culinary highlights – and just as its ends the Äußere Neustadt with its trendy shops, bars and cafés begins.

Altmarkt-Galerie shopping centre

Altmarkt square used to be Dresden’s commercial centre since the 12th century. On this historic site, Altmarkt-Galerie shopping centre opened its doors back in 2002. Nowadays, more than 200 retail stores, cafés and restaurants on three floors offer an attraction itself for residents as well as for tourists. The attractively designed outside areas have turned the Altmarkt-Galerie into a charming city-center neighbourhood with its own distinctive character.
