EXPLORING HEIMAT
Youth Council Dresden 2025 dance performance
The opening event on thursday evening was dedicated to exploring the question of What is HEIMAT? Participants were tasked to prepare a pecha kucha or a life presentation on ideas related to this question.
Voices on Heimat
- „Heimat … a place where one can feel secure and find ones identity again… where children can grow up safely.“
- „Heimat is a place where my friends and family are, where I can love and be loved.“
- „Heimat – How I think it should be created? By working together yet staying independent and by making Heimat safe for everyone.
- „Where I see the dangers for the future? In youth marginalisation, unemployment, negative multiculturalism, moral decadence.“
- „Heimat is my homeland. Heimat is something with defined rules and traditions that should be followed.“
Voices on the future of Heimat
- „I want to live in a stable and safe country. With less unemployment, especially for young people“.
- „How can we protect Heimat? With relatively strict border control.“
- „In the future I hope… kids and young people could trust the specialists more … adults would be more responsible.“
- „What we want in our New Heimat? Safety, pride, welcome, equal opportunities. What we do not want in our New Heimat? Litter, knife crime, racism, division.“
- „Heimat is where you feel safe. Where I can feel safe and myself without being insecure or being judged.“
- „Heimat is the feeling of Geborgenheit (belonging) and arriving somewhere.“
- „Heimat is a state of being at peace with yourself.“
