As of the 31st of December 2016, there were 58.674 people with a migration background living in Dresden. This corresponds to approximately 10,6 % of the city's Population. 6.76 % of all Dresden citizens are foreigners; some just stay for a limited period of time while others choose to make the Saxon capital their new home.
The expression "people with a migration background" applies to
- first generation immigrants,
- second and third generation foreigners born in Germany,
- ethnic German resettlers
- late German repatriates,
- naturalised citizens as well as
- citizens with a least one non-German or immigrant parent.
