Security zones

Period affected

From 3 a.m. on 4 June 2009 to midnight on 5 June 2009, three security zones (described below) will be set up in Dresden:

Security Zone 1 (red):

Taschenbergpalais Hotel Kempinski area, enclosed by the following streets:

Kleine Brüdergasse - Sophienstraße - Taschenberg

These streets form Security Zone 1.

Who has access?

Access to Security Zone 1 is granted only to people and vehicles accredited for the US President's visit; local residents and members of the security service, with corresponding ID, or people carrying a valid ID document who can provide proof of another justified interest to the police.


Security Zone 2 (green):

The area enclosed by the following streets or areas:

Augustusstraße - Töpferstraße - An der Frauenkirche - Salzgasse - Rampische Straße - An der Frauenkirche - Neumarkt - Augustusstraße - Schloßplatz - Schloßstraße - Kleine Brüdergasse - Sophienstraße - Dresdner Zwinger (except the Zwinger lake and surrounding park) - Theaterplatz (up to northern access road to Semper Opera House) - Sophienstraße - Chiaverigasse - Schloßplatz

These streets themselves are not all in Security Zone 2.

Who has access?

During the period of 3 a.m. on 4 June 2009 and midnight on 5 June 2009 local residents or other people entitled to do so may only move in Security Zone 2 outside of secured properties and buildings accompanied by police officers to enter or leave this security zone.


Security Zone 3 (grey):

The area enclosed by the following streets:

Wilsdruffer Straße (northern side of buildings) - Postplatz - Ostra-Allee - Am Zwingerteich - Bernhard-von-Lindenau-Platz - Terrassenufer - Hasenberg - Akademiestraße - Rathenauplatz - St. Petersburger Straße - Pirnaischer Platz

These streets themselves are not all in Security Zone 3.

Who has access?

Local residents or other people entitled to do so may only move in Security Zone 3 during the visit by the US President outside of secured properties and buildings accompanied by police officers to enter or leave this security zone.


Elbe: shipping ban

From kilometre 48.00 of the Elbe (Erdegruben mooring) to kilometre 66.90 of the Elbe (Niedergohlis mooring), from four hours prior to the arrival of the US president in Dresden to his departure from Dresden (exit from the city area), a shipping ban and a general traffic ban applies for all vehicles, push tows, interconnected vehicles and floating units and bodies.

This ban shall not include vehicles belonging to the authorities.

Rescue service vehicles (fire service, Technisches Hilfswerk, DLRG, Deutsches Rotes Kreuz) may only enter the area of the shipping ban on the instructions of the river police.

There are authorised exemptions for the paddle-steamers of Sächsische Dampfschifffahrt. You will get more information on their website:

Elbe: mooring ban

From 2 p.m. on 4 June 2009 to 3 p.m. on 5 June 2009 a mooring ban shall apply from kilometre 54.00 of the Elbe (Albertbrücke bridge) to kilometre 56.56 of the Elbe (railway bridge) for all vehicles, push tows, interconnected vehicles and floating units and bodies. This shall apply for the entire width of the river.

This shall not include ships moored at the authorised moorings between the Albertbrücke bridge and the Marienbrücke bridge, although a minimum distance is to be kept of 100m up- and down-river from the Albertbrücke, Carolabrücke und Augustusbrücke bridges.

During the above period no construction work is to take place in the water of the Elbe or its banks.

Elbe: swimming, bathing, fishing

Swimming, bathing and fishing in the Elbe is prohibited from 6 a.m. on 4 June 2009 to midnight on 5 June 2009 from kilometre 53.30 of the Elbe (Johannstadt ferry) to kilometre 58.00 of the Elbe (Pieschen docks).
