Mathematisch-Physikalischer Salon
Museum of Mathematics and Physics
The Mathematical-Physical Salon houses a world-famous historical collection of timepieces and scientific instruments. Since its foundation in 1728 it has been located in the Dresden Zwinger. There are impressive terrestrial and celestial globes from past centuries. Equally fascinating are optical, astronomical and geo¬desic instruments dating back to the sixteenth century. The objects in the Salon provide an overview of the development of early precision instruments, but at the same time they are works of art of the highest calibre, reflecting the fact that they were owned by princes. Selected items are used to explain the application and functioning of such instruments.
Öffnungszeiten
The richly traditional collection of historical scientific instruments in the Zwinger will be closed for construction until approximately the end of 2012. For information on interim exhibitions, see www.skd.museum.
