Museums
Landesamt für Archäologie mit Landesmuseum für Vorgeschichte
State Museum of Prehistory
The Landesmuseum für Vorgeschichte is to be found in Dresden’s oldest museum building, the Japanisches Palais (Japanese Palace). There is no permanent exhibition: instead, excitingly designed special exhibitions on archaeology and cultural history are regularly put on here. Current information can be found on the internet.
The future “Haus der Archäologie” in Chemnitz is being planned at present. There, in the former Schocken department store building, Saxon archaeology will be presented, from 2012 onwards, in a permanent exhibition designed along the most modern lines.
