Heimat- und Palitzsch-Museum Prohlis
Palitzsch Museum
At the heart of the new permanent exhibition are the 7,000-year history of the district and the life of the famous farmer-astronomer Johann Georg Palitzsch. Traces of circular earthworks are evidence of a long history of settlement. Later a village stood there for many hundreds of years; it has now been replaced by an area of modern housing. Johann Georg Palitzsch lived and worked in the village in the eighteenth century. In 1758 he was the first to discover the comet predicted by Edmond Halley. A third section aims to convey a basic understanding of astronomy and gives up-to-date information about comet research. A unique model on the scale of 1:4.3 billion provides a visual illustration of the dimensions of our solar system. Here you can discover things that they do not teach you at school.
