There is much more to Christmas in Dresden than just the famous Dresdner Striezelmarkt. Two further city-run and several privately organised markets also help visitors to get into a festive mood in the holiday season. In fact, a whole Christmas mile has evolved between the markets on Prager Strasse and Hauptstrasse. This includes  the traditional Christmas market by the Frauenkirche lane, the "Medieval Christmas" in the former mews of the Royal Palace and the Advent on Neumarkt. Even aside from this central axis, there are many other smaller markets to be found around the city, each with its own particular attractions and flair. In this respect, the intimate christmas market in the former village centre of Loschwitz and the Neustädter Advent between the Baroque Quarter, Königstraße and the Outer Neustadt are especially worth mentioning.

Christmas highlights await also in the four city centre churches Kreuzkirche, Frauenkirche, Cathedral and Dreikönigskirche, as well as in the Kulturpalast civic centre.

Further recommendations for Christmas shopping, in addition to the above-mentioned markets, are Altmarkt-Gallery shopping centre, Centrum-Gallery shopping centre, Neustadt market hall and numerous passages and arcades of the Baroque Quarter, all of which are partuclarly festively decorated each year, as well as the shopping streets of the more outlying city districts,  such as Borsbergstrasse and Schillerplatz.
