Foreigners in Dresden

As of the 31st of December 2015, there were 53 999 people with a migration background living in Dresden. This corresponds to approximately 9,83 % of the city's population. 6.76 % of all Dresden citizens are foreigners; some just stay for a limited period of time while others choose to make the Saxon capital their new home.

The expression "people with a migration background" applies to

  • first generation immigrants,
  • second and third generation foreigners born in Germany,
  • ethnic German resettlers
  • late German repatriates,
  • naturalised citizens as well as
  • citizens with a least one non-German or immigrant parent.

On the following pages, we would like to inform you about important contact points dealing specifically with issues that might affect people with a migration background. Other users of this website will also find interesting information on the rich cultural and social life in the city as well as on organisations and associations that promote intercultural cooperation.
