Dresden in 3D with Google Earth

Based on the 3D city model of the state capital Dresden an attractive three-dimensional representation of our city was generated in collaboration with the companies virtualcitysystems GmbH from Chemnitz and 3D Geo GmbH from Potsdam. Now we are showing you parts of this city model on "Google Earth", a software application from Google Inc. (USA). Experience and discover Saxony's  state capital from different perspectives - just as you like. No matter if you are hovering over the Frauenkirche church, landing on town squares, flying over bridges or along streets - we wish you an exciting walk through our city!

Technical advises

• In order to display the 3D city model, an installation of Google Earth version 4 or higher is required. In the following article you will find links to software download, to a detail screen and to instructions for use.
• For optimal display of our building models please activate "Terrain" and deactivate "3D Buildings" in the "Primary Database" (lower left area in the application window).Set the hard disk cache size to approximately 400 MB under "Tools/Options/Cache".  Depending on the bandwidth of your internet connection and the server workload the loading of the partially extensive building models can take up to 1-2 minutes.
• After starting the 3D city model with the upper link you must head for Dresden. Please choose "Dresden3D" from "Temporary Places". (left area, in the middle of the application window). Depending on their complexity the 3D objects are loaded and displayed in the respective display window at a sight height between 800 and 500 meters.
• The location of interesting buildings, such as train stations ("Bahnhof"), educational institutions ("Bildung") and public buildings ("öffentliche Gebäude"), will be displayed if you choose the corresponding entries from the menu. Recent aerial views are available in the area around the "Frauenkirche" and the "Wiener Platz" (menu entry "Luftbilder").

• Free usage is allowed for private, non-commercial purpose only!
• The copyright of the data displayed or provided for print-outs remains with the Dresden City Surveyor´s Office.
• For commercial reproductions, such as copying, digitalization, scanning and storage on mediums, as well as for publications including the right of processing and passing over to third parties a reproduction fee is charged. For the issue of permit a written application is required.
• The state capital Dresden disclaims any liability for damages resulting from the use of data. The user must release the state capital Dresden in this regard from claims of third parties.
• Dresden is place of jurisdiction for litigations resulting from this agreement.
