Dresden was always city in which migration, meaning immigration and emigration, played an important role. The city can thank immigrants for many of its important developments.
One in twelve residents of Dresden is “a person with an immigration background.” These are people who have come to Germany from other countries, as well as their children and grandchildren. It is not important whether they had a German citizenship from the beginning, were naturalized, or still have a passport from another a country. People who have an immigrated parent and were born in Germany also have a “immigration background.” To simplify matters, the word “immigrant” will be used for all of the groups named above.
The integration concept, 2015 - 2020, is divided into multiple components. It describes the rules and goals of integration politics in Dresden. Then, it looks at the current situation in eleven areas and future tasks. The city administration, its offices, and the city council have to implement these measures in the next year.
