Music, Theatre and Stages

In the world of music and theatre is the name »Dresden« not an unknown. Not only the Semper Opera House is an opera house of world renown featuring an acclaimed ensemble and international guests. It is also the home to the Saechsische Staatskapelle, one of the most tradition-steeped orchestras in the world, looking back over a history of 460 years. A well-known person is the principal conductor of the Dresden Philharmonic orchestra. Rafael Fruehbeck de Burgos gives with his orchestra concerts almost every weekend – major symphonies, choral works, chamber music and concerts specially for children. A wide repertoire awaits the guests also in Germany´s only operetta theatre. Fantastic entertainment with classical operettas, fast-moving shows, musical comedies and light opera presents the Operetta.
Stage of Schauspielhaus theatre
Actors and actresses from acclaimed German theatres join also wellknown local names on the stage of the Schauspielhaus theatre. Guest performances, from the Deutsches Theater in Berlin to Hamburg‘s Thalia Theater, complement the season‘s calendar.
The »people's theatre« in the small house of the Theatre company is open to all, offering a diversity of well-known and new productions and texts. The repertoire of the Comedy Theatre is by no means limited to just the genre »comedy«. As an independent, non-subsidised theatre, the »Komoedie« caters for a broad audience with international guests and a distinct readiness to experiment. Considerably smaller is the theatre on the Elbe, called Theaterkahn, at the heart of the old city. It offers the finest musical cabaret and smallstage comedy, from Kaestner to Heine, from Otto Reutter to Georg Kreisler, from Walser to Loriot.
Cabaret & Travesty-Revue
The extravagant drag theatre enchants its guests with glamorous revues in the style of the Lido and Moulin Rouge – cheeky, frivolous and entertaining. The greatest secrets are revealed at the end of the show. The artists slowly remove their make-up and present themselves to the audience as they really are: Men who master perfectly the art of transformation into women of the world.
