One day in Dresden is really much too short, but it is still long enough for a well-organized program that will give you an appetite for more. The first thing to do is find a place for your car, if you have one. The parking information website can give you an update on available parking spots at any given time.

Shopping downtown

The historical downtown area is not very big, and it can easily be navigated on foot. The ideal starting point is the Dresden central train station. This allows you to combine the useful with the practical, and even gives you an overview of Dresden's longest shopping district, Prager Straße. You can also explore the recently built Centrum gallery and the Altmarkt Gallery.

The tourist information offices can tell you about current offers

A wide variety of restaurants can be found throughout the central downtown area. There is something here for every palate and every price category. Various city walks and driving tours leave from the city center at regular intervals. The tourist information office in the Palace of Culture or in the main station is happy to provide you with advice about the various ways to explore Dresden. The well-known museums in the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen, the Frauenkirche and the Zwinger are just a stone's throw apart.

Discovery tour by bus or steamboat

If you still have some time after your downtown tour, we recommend a trip to the other side of the Elbe River. Dresden's Neustadt Quarter is a lively neighborhood with a completely different Dresden feel. The somewhat more remote Elbe palaces and the Elbe River Valley can be explored through a trip on a paddle steamer with the Sächsische Dampfschiffahrt company.
