Discovery tour of the Transport Museum and the Erich Kästner Museum
Questions are absolutely encouraged in the Transport Museum. Everything that rolls, flies, floats and steams can be found in the 400-year-old Johanneum: locomotives, automobiles, bicycles, airplanes, ships, streetcars and buses – as models or originals. Interactive exhibits can be found in the »micromuseum« located in a villa formerly belonging to author Erich Kaestner’s uncle on Alberplatz. The Erich Kaestner Museum is a »walk-in treasure chest«. Visitors can wander among the life-sized building blocks containing the exhibits, and discover Kaestner’s works using the latest media technology.
The Park Train experience
A half-hour trip on the Park Train through the Great Garden is an experience for the whole family. During the summer months, the miniature train, with its 381-mm-wide track, passes by the zoo’s animal enclosures, the Palace and the Carolasee (Carola Lake). 2,500 animals of approximately 350 different species also live in the 13 hectares directly next to the Great Garden.
Panometer Rome 312
The giant panoramic painting »Rome 312«, in Dresden-Reick, shows what Rome looked like at the time of Emperor Constantine.
After all of these experiences, of course a solid meal is in order. One of the most child-friendly restaurants in Dresden is the »Luisenhof« in Dresden in Dresden Loschwitz, which has a wonderful view of the city and the Elbe landscape and has been described as »Dresden’s balcony«; it can be reached by funicular railway.
